To shave or not to shave

Velominati Rule #
 recites: “Shave your guns.

Legs are to be carefully shaved at all times. If, for some reason, your legs are to be left hairy, make sure you can dish out plenty of hurt to shaved riders, or be considered a hippie douche on your way to a Critical Mass.”

Road cyclists would do anything to get faster. Once you’ve already tweaked your bike to perfection, upgraded your kit and worked on your diet, there is one extra step you might wanna consider, which I must confess has never caressed my mind.

Shaved legs are common among road cyclists, as they are very effective when it comes to cheat the wind. They also have some practical sides: in case you crash frequently, shaved legs are more hygienical.
I must admit the die-hard Italian in me doesn’t really like the idea of shaving his legs but lately I’ve been feeling rather experimental, hence I’ve decided to take the challenge…only for charity, let’s be clear about it!

Starting from today (May 22nd, 2018) for every 10 Euro pledged for Nazra Syria, I will shave 1cm off.  My legs are 1 meter, you don’t want to let me do the race with half of my legs shaved off! What will I look like?

Let’s go all the way from the ankle to…the end.

Please, promote the pledge among your friends and ask them to support the cause! Tell them a die-hard Italian is about to let it go.

Since we’ve announced support to Nazra Syria, people have already committed to donate more than 2000€ to the cause. This will allow a family of 6 – such as Basma’s–  to get by for half a year. Thanks heaps to all of you who have already pledged a donation!

Hopefully by the 29th of July (beginning of the race) I’ll have my legs fully shaved…

For those of you new to this blog, you can check out at who they are and what projects they are currently fundraising for. You can also read The Cause and find out why I’m supporting Nazra Syria and who they are, in a nutshell.

Time to cycle to the shop and purchase monsieur Gillette and some nifty foam. Tips how-to are very welcome as I’m a novice and would like not to butcher my legs!
